Which attribute?
I am a brand spanking new player. I am going to focus on PVE and I have my lil ele. I've started in Proph. I am going to go for Monk for my secondary, so I can have some heals since i'm the newbiest person on the server. I Googled around and haven't seen many people ask which magic attribute to focus on. They all sound fairly useful. So what do u guys think? Fire? Air? Earth? WateR?
P.S. Other than pouring points into my main attribute, how many should I put in the others? There a minimum I should shoot for for the others? 5? 1?

As a new player starting in prophecies, focusing on fire would be your best bet. There aren't a lot of good options for eles specializing in earth, air, or water early on. Also, fire eles pretty much dominate the field in Normal mode. Once you get to late prophecies (ring of fire islands) and into Hard mode; it'd be better to get a good earth or air build since fire eles become severely nerfed. At level 20 with all available attribute points, put the maximum points into energy storage and whichever attribute that you end up using the most. Don't bother spreading the points evenly into a whole bunch of lines because you'll end up making all your skills too weak.

just by googling you are probably better than 10% of guild wars players already lol. good just looking up optimal builds. I'd suggest fire as previously stated because there are a lot better fire skills in early prophecies than any other.

First of all: Don't heal yourself! with advange builds an ele can be a really good healer. But in general, let healing be done by an henchman. If needed you can use aura of restoration for self heals (cast a spell and be healed).
I would go indeed go for fire magic and energy magic. I've started my first ele in prophecy's too, and after some experimenting i got the best results with firemagic skills. Firestorm is a great skill for when you have a nice and clustered mob. if the are running all around you party, then use other skills. firestorm isn't as effective then and takes too long to cast.
The charr are a little bit harder to kill with firemagic. But its sill very doable. And when you did the first few mission you will meet a lot of creatures mad of cie, who just melts away.

Just remember Guild Wars is very friendly in letting you experimenting yourself. There's no penalty for putting points in "wrong" attribute, skills can be changed anytime etc (from an outpost). In games like EverQuest 1, putting points into attributes was basically permanent, Guild Wars is so much better than that.
Like others I think Fire will dominate your first leveling progress. Just keep playing until you see that the mobs start to take less damage, certain mobs are more resistant to certain types of damage. By this time you might have unlocked skills in other attributes to see they might be more effective. Just think of the different specialties each field will give and consider when one might be better than another.
Fire: Lots of area damage, so it's good when mobs often comes in large packs.
Air: Better against spiking single targets as many skills have 25% armor penetration.
Earth: Good defensive skills either for yourself or your party, or some alternative area damage when Fire won't do.
Water: Lots of snares to keep your foes where you want them.

E/Mo with fire magic and Heal Party. Later in the game, switch to Air Magic and keep that Heal Party if you're having difficulties with your henchmen. Alesia is pretty dumb.
